It had to happen at one point, I guess. When “Translate This” started to follow me on Twitter, I had a bad feeling. Well, I don’t really own the title of this blog, but, Doug and Yoshie, could you really think of nothing better than to use the same title, including the exclamation mark, for your 翻訳ウェブサイト (which I will not link here for obvious reasons)? Come on!
When I started in 2003, translatethis.com was taken, but the (Canadian) outfit called itself International Translators and Interpreters. This left me, I felt, with the opportunity to name my blog Translate This! To start now another translation blog with the same title from Japan may not break any laws, but it reminds me nonetheless of the old Maxwell Smart saying: “Don’t be fooled by a cheap Japanese imitation.”
