In the Heart of Jerusalem

I am attending the ATA conference in Seattle at the moment. It is great to be back here after 11 years, the city where I first “landed” in 1972. It is such a thrill to see everyone from Virginia, from Colorado, from California. That’s why I like this conference so much: the opportunity to meet up with colleagues and clients.

In the city, a new movie is playing – Ushpizin. The blurb tells us “…the fundamental truths of the human experience need no translation.” An affront to the 1600 or so translators and interpreters who have gathered in Seattle or an underhand confession that the distributor was too cheap to dub or subtitle the film?
