I still remember the sad moment in the fall of 2004 when I had to part with my Lexmark Optra R+ laser printer. I replaced it with a Lexmark C510 color laser printer. To be honest, I haven’t been using the color printing feature that much; the toner is too expensive. But it has been a reliable, fast printer – until last Saturday.
All of a sudden, a sizable vertical margin on the right did not print anymore. I had enough toner. I cleaned all rollers and the laser lens, just in case toner had accumulated there. No results. Finally, I called Lexmark’s support.
It took a while, but eventually they diagnosed a defective photodeveloper unit. If you order a new unit on-line, it is $267.99 plus tax. But guess what – even thought the printer is close to 10 years old and way beyond its warranty, Lexmark is replacing the photodeveloper unit for free! Yay!
